“And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:11
Some people do not declare Jesus to be the Son of God. Although Scriptures refer to Jesus directly as the “only begotten Son of God,” they still don’t believe it. As the passage above shows, we should be honoring God in all that we do, and as we give thanks we should do it “through Jesus.” Jesus is our intercessor – the one whom allows us access to God.
Prior to Jesus being crucified on the cross, the high priest had to go annually, and present a sacrifice to God in the “most holy place” in the temple. He was the only one allowed access to this room to present the offering to God. When Jesus died, the veil in the temple to the most holy place was torn from top to bottom, signifying that we now had access directly to God through the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus paid on the cross as the Son of God.
Jesus provided the new means through which we now can access what God offers. It is through belief in Jesus that we have Salvation.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
So, how important is Jesus to you? To me, I believe in Him as the Son of God, and one day in the future I will get to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
