As we enter the Christmas season, it’s not uncommon to hear “Peace on Earth” or “Goodwill toward men.” But where did those phrases originate?
Luke 2:14 (New King James Version)
“ Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Imagine that! History reveals yet another long exercised tradition rests on the shoulders of Scripture as its heart source. As someone who lived into their adult years before ever coming to know Christ, I can relate to those who are still lost. It seems, as I remember, that no one ever told me the good news about Christ.
Sure, I’m positive I did hear it (especially at Christmas), but it never got through until one day when I was sitting with Kimberly talking with her Pastor one on one. You see, here’s the thing. Christmas songs, Christmas cards, and a variety of other things ALL tell the wonderful Christmas story to the world. BUT…some people just don’t get it! (Remember…, I was one of them.) People don’t get the obvious sometimes!
So, during this Christmas season, make a point of it to tell somebody, ONE-ON-ONE about Jesus’ birth, and what it means to you, to them, and to the whole world.
Jesus brought us peace on earth…
He showed us goodwill to men…
Will you bring others to Jesus Christ and show them goodwill?
For the next 10 days, take less time wrapping presents, signing cards, and preparing food,
and more time telling the wonderful Good News of our Savior Jesus Christ.
