Recently, I’ve had a discussion with someone about temptation. He said “all this temptation in the world keeps drawing me away” from God. I understand what he means. It seems so hard sometimes not to give in to worldly temptations and accepted society norms. However, Jesus gives us some advice on the situation:
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” – Matthew 26:41
Now . . . a lot of people sometimes question Scripture “quotes” because certain passages used outside of their context can indeed portray a different meaning. However, in this case, Jesus was in the garden of Gethsamane, speaking to the disciples about watching and praying over the evening events, because He was about to be betrayed and arrested, leading to His crucifixion.
Therefore, this is a very applicable quote to what is going on in our lives. Just as the disciples were being distracted by worldly “needs” and desires, keeping them from having their eyes on Jesus – we also are distracted, on a daily basis. This is what satan desires – that we be distracted and get our eyes off Jesus.
So this is just a little reminder today, watch and pray, keep your eyes on Jesus and do not allow things of this world nor people of this world to distract you from Jesus.
