king for a day

Wouldn’t it be nice to be “king” for a day?

“For you…have redeemed us to God by Your blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God and we shall reign on earth.” – Rev 5:9-10

The good news is that ALL christians will be kings . . ., but even better -not just for a day, but for eternity!

Today we reign in what we see as a world that is troubled and broken. But it’s only because we look at it that way. If we were to look at the world and see God’s beautiful creation, then the darkness fades away. Today is a day to start fresh, with a positive outlook on life, a look that says I see God’s wonder and grace all around me, and I’m going to bathe in God’s presence! “We shall reign on earth!”

Blessings, not cursings

As the Israelites were receiving their “laws” – some of them were emphasized. As I always say: “if the Bible repeats something, it must be REALLY important.”  As you read these Scriptures from Deuteronomy, keep this in mind…

Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.  –  Deuteronomy 11:1

Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today…   –  Deut 11:8

Faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul  –  Deut 11:13

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  –  Deut 11:18

Carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him  –  Deut 11:22

In the final verses of the chapter, I believe the Scripture comes to a necessary and wonderful conclusion:

I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse-  the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods  –  Deut 11:26-28

God has already, numerous times, warned us to Follow Him, to Obey His commands, to Love Him. If we simply follow these commands, then blessings belong to us.  On the flip side, however, if we fail to trust in God, then dire circumstances are headed our way.

The Lord wants to bless us in everything we do.  I do not believe that He desires to curse us, but in the instance here, it is obvious that the Lord did forwarn us not to stray from His teachings (God’s commands).

For those who do not believe in the Bible or in God, they may not care or believe in the curses they will and are undergoing.  However, to anyone who trusts in the Lord to fulfill His promises, then they should, in deed, be greatly concerned.

At the same time however, there should really be no reason to be concerned if we are trusting in the Lord.  We should be receiving the blessings which the Lord continually and freely gives to those who are His children. So today, if you feel that life may not be going just right, and you think you’ve missed a blessing, then think: what have I done that hasn’t pleased God? Chances are that something small you have done was not according to God’s Word.

Challenge yourself – Follow Him in EVERYTHING and see how many blessings come your way!

A love letter from God to His Daughters

My precious daughter,
I will never leave you,
I will never forsake you,
I will be faithful until the end,
You are more than just “my daughter”
You are my princess,
My beloved, my delight,
I rejoice in you,
You are beautiful,
You shine with light,
You have dove’s eyes,
I rejoice in you with singing,
I will quiet you with my love,
Hold you in my arms,
Never let you go,
For you are never alone,
You never have been alone,
I’ve been with you all along,
Your whole life,
I understand your pain,
My sacrifice wasn’t for nothing,
Let me tell you I understand your confusion,
I understand your anger and frustration,
I understand your tears,
And I care, Very much, For you,
Everything that is important to you,
Is important to me too,
My love for you will never end,
I will not leave you for another,
I will not abandon you ever,
No matter how far you go,
My love will never end.

I have examined you heart,
I know everything about you,
When you sit down or stand up,
I know your thoughts,
Even when you are far away,
I see you when you travel,
Or when you rest at home,
I see the tears that fall from your eyes,
I see the heartache in your home,
Believe me I know the lies,
I know the temptations,
But I am here,
I know what you are going to say,
Even before you say it.

I go before you and follow,
I place my hand of blessing on your head,
Such knowledge is beyond comprehension,
It is too wonderful for you to understand,
You can never escape from my Spirit,
You can never get away from my presence!
If you go up to heaven, I am there;
If you go down to the grave, I am there.
If you ride the wings of the morning,
If you dwell by the farthest oceans,
Even there my hand will guide you,
And my strength will support you.

You could ask the darkness to hide you,
And the light around you to become night,
But even in darkness you cannot hide from me,
To me night shine as day,
Darkness and light are the same to me,
I made all the delicate, inner parts of your body,
I made your heart,
I know what makes you hurt,
I know what makes you cry,
I know what makes you tick,
I know when breaks your heart the most,
And I know how to comfort you,
I know how to make you smile,
I know how to love you,
I know how to be a daddy who loves,
Such a beautiful daughter like you,
You long for acceptance,
When you were already accepted into my family,
You are fearfully and wonderfully made,
I love you more than you know,
I will fill your heart with the love and peace you long for,
I saw you before you were born,
I knit you together in your mother’s womb,
Even then I loved you,
And I was proud of you,
And I thought of you as my beautiful daughter,
my princess,
Everyday of your life is recorded in my book,
Every moment was laid out,
Every moment that would bring you joy,
Every moment that would bring you pain.

My thoughts about you are precious,
They cannot be numbered,
They out number the grains of sand,
And when you wake up in the morning,
I am still with you,
I love you more than you know,
You are beautiful to me,
Even though you feel something is always wrong,
Just look into my eyes,
See how I see you,
A beautiful princess,
With beautiful eyes that shine with my love and my light,
I love you,
And I will say it again,
I love you,
My princess,
my beloved,
My precious daughter,
I love you,
I love you,
I love you.

Don’t give up,
For I see the brokenness in your families,
In your friendships,
I see the pain in your eyes,
Your beautiful heart,
That used to be so filled joy,
Is now crushed beneath your burdens,
But you’re still beautiful to me,
So beautiful to me,
I will heal you and restore you once again,
My precious daughter,
I will never leave you,
I will never forsake you,
I will be faithful until the end,
Faithful until the end…

Your loving Father and Daddy, Prince of Peace, King of Glory, -Jesus.

Glory to God

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.” – 1 Cor 1:18

“He who glories, let him glory in the LORD” – 1 Cor 1:31

As I read this daily devotion from 1 Corinthians, I realized yet again, that we do have things to rejoice in. For example: God gave us Salvation – and if we have salvation, then we can glorify God because of it.
See, those who are perishing have no hope, they have no joy, they only have brief times of happiness. But we, who are saved by the power of Jesus Christ, may too have brief times of happiness, but we have a lifetime of joy and comfort in our Lord and Savior.

We can glorify God because of what He has done for us.

you just won – rejoice!

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard co-workers talk about going to the casinoes or buying lottery tickets. “Hey buy me a ticket and if I win, I’ll split it with you.” – Yeah, like that will ever happen.

Every few years the politicians bring up lottery and slots and so forth in our state legislature and every time, us “religious” folk go about and protest and protest – it’s unbiblical, and on a practical sense it will make our poor poorer and how the politicians will be the only ones who benefit.

Well, this morning I want to talk about the winning the lottery.  Huh? Well, let’s read this Scripture that was the foundation of my mornings devotion:

“I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.”- Psalm 119:14

I think it’s interesting that the Psalmist here can only best describe how to rejoice in God’s glory by relating it to what the majority of mankind desires most: riches. “Money can’t buy happiness” – but a lot of people truly think that if they have money that they will be happy. At least, the overwhelming majority would initially feel like rejoicing had they won the lottery.

Well, scripture here tells us that feeling is exactly how we should approach God. We should rejoice that God has asked to be part of our lives and that He has given us some guidance in life. Don’t be down-trodden, saddened, or defeated – but feel power in God’s Word and in His direction for your life. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!”

We shall rejoice in God’s majesty and splendor. Only He can give us what we truly need and the desires of our heart. I ask that you say a prayer for someone that you know today that they may come to know joy through a relationship with God.

“[Let’s] rejoice in following [God’s] statutes as one rejoices in great riches.”- Psalm 119:14

health – a different perspective…

An elderly couple met their demise in an auto accident and were transported to Heaven.
The faithful couple were recognized by St. Peter and escorted into the welcome center, where they began to take in all the wonder and amazement of the place.
St. Peter pointed out the food court and told them that they could, of course, eat anything and not worry about their health.
The husband quickly began partaking of the pastries and deserts.
The wife was amazed at the beauty, the peace and the joy she felt and commented over and over about what a nice place Heaven was and how happy she felt to be there.
However, the husband began looking quite grim.
His wife inquired what the problem was.
The husband sneered, “If it weren’t for you and your oat bran muffins & health food, we’d probably have been here 15 years ago!”
John 3:36 He that believes in the Son [Jesus] has everlasting life [Heaven]: and he that believes not in the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him [hell].

Are you sure?

When I was in the military some time ago, I was known for asking my soldiers “Are you sure?” Why did I ask this? I discovered very quickly that once someone came across an excuse, albeit true or not, they used it – assumed it as the truth – and moved on to the next issue at hand. Unfortunately, more times than not, the original (surface) answer given is not always the underlying and root issue or cause at hand. Many times there are deeper more fundamental, foundational reasons for something being the way it is.

So what does this have to do with Scripture? I am often asked, how do I get closer to God? Why can’t I feel the Holy Spirit with me? Today I was NOT looking for an answer to that question, but I believe I found a reason for it:

1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”

5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
” ‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'”

7Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'”

8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'”

11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

You may be asking, Huh? I don’t get it. Think about it. Prior to this time, there is no record of the angels attending Jesus. This is the story prior to the beginning of an extraordinary ministry by Jesus on earth. But prior to gaining such Heavenly support for His ministry, Jesus was tested. He was essentially being asked “Are you sure?”

The Devil tempted Him again and again. Jesus had been physically, mentally, and spiritually exhausted. His time alone in the wilderness lasted 40 days. He was being challenged to ensure He was ready, competent, and willing to undergo the mission that God had sent Him on.

Today, we all undergo our own challenges. But we run into temptation, questions, and diversions. Maybe we are being tested “Are we sure” that we really want to follow God? Are we being 100% obedient to God? Or have we failed the test? If we fail the test, I presume that the angels don’t come to attend us like they did Jesus. On the flip side, if and when we do pass the test, then the angels will come and protect us.

Today our challenge is to be 100% positively committed to God. “Are you sure” you’re ready?
