listen . . .

The book of Proverbs is filled with so much knowledge, it’s hard to figure out where to start. In Chapter 8, Solomon is talking about listening . . .

32 “Now then, my sons, listen to me;
       blessed are those who keep my ways.

 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
       do not ignore it.

 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me,
       watching daily at my doors,
       waiting at my doorway.

 35 For whoever finds me finds life
       and receives favor from the LORD.

Although this is Solomon speaking, he is NOT speaking of himself. It sounds like he is telling us to listen to him. But if we go back to the beginnings of chapter 8, we find these verses:

1 Listen as Wisdom calls out!
      Hear as understanding raises her voice!

3 By the gates at the entrance to the town,
      on the road leading in, she cries aloud,
 4 “I call to you, to all of you!
      I raise my voice to all people.

12 “I, Wisdom, . . .

So, then, the chapter is written through Solomon concerning “wisdom.” The Scripture emphasizes that we should

  • Listen to the wise
  • Be wise

And if we do these things, we can expect to:

  • Be blessed by the Lord

  • Find life with the Lord

  • Receive favor from the Lord

Proverbs 8:36 – “But those who miss [wisdom] injure themselves.”
